10
day EXPEDITIONS
DYER
ISLAND(Gansbaai)
These
are conducted at regular intervals during the course of the
year. Expeditions are particularly suited to people
with a vested interest in the conservation and preservation
of the GREAT WHITE SHARK as well as students studying marine
biology or similar.
Extensive
research procedures are conducted during the 10 day expedition
and expedition members are encouraged to participate in tagging
of sharks, recording of specific data for research purposes
and viewing the GREAT WHITES from the safety of specially
built cages which are partially submerged to facilitate optimum
viewing.
When
unsafe weather conditions preclude trips to DYER ISLAND, from
where most of the research is carried out, expedition members
are invited to participate in various activities such as trail
hikes in the Kogelberg Biosphere Nature reserve starting from
Betty's Bay, a visit to L`Algulhas (Southern most point in
Africa), the large African Penguin colony at Betty's Bay (one
of only 3 colonies on the African continent), whale watching
in Hermanus (premier whale watching territory) & if all
else fails, a wine-tasting tour of our renowned SOUTH AFRICAN
WINELANDS.
Lectures
are informal yet informative. Various lecturers, who
are recognized in the fields of White Shark behaviour and
sighting, are invited to address expedition members in order
to enhance the the total WHITE SHARK experience and to provide
expedition members with their own hard-earned knowledge of
these magnificent animals.
Accommodation,
transfers from and to Cape Town (on start and termination
dates of expedition), meals, diving gear and lectures are
included in the overall 10 day package.

SEAL
ISLAND & SURROUNDS (False Bay)
Great
White Sharks are abundantly present during the months of April
through to September in the False Bay area.False
Bay White Shark expeditions are scheduled to start on the
first day of each month throughout the year. We attempt
to concentrate our expeditions during the months of March
to October as there is a significant increase in Great White
Shark sightings and activity during these months which
are specifically suited to our White Shark expeditions.
During
the expedition we collect environmental and shark data and
we encourage expedition members to participate in the activities.Slides
and talks will be conducted at various intervals during the
expedition.
We
arrange accommodation for our expedition members in close
proximity to our base in Simonstown. There are several
places of interest in and around Simonstown including the
legendary Brass Bell pub/restaurant in Kalk Bay. Here
the view over the bay is spectacular. Visit the naval
base in Simonstown and have a leisurely lunch at one of the
many restaurants and pubs which overlook the picturesque bay.
Simonstown is also renowned for it's beautiful colonial architecture. The
